Accounts & the age gate
Why does Lineup ask for my date of birth?
Because Lineup shows drink specials and cover pricing, which are 21+ content - so the gate is a real date of birth, not a checkbox. Your birthday is stored once, can't be edited, and is never displayed anywhere: not on your profile, not to friends, not to bars. You'll re-enter it on a fresh install, and that's the only time it comes up again. The whole approach is written up in the age policy.
Can I use Lineup if I'm under 21?
Yes - you're not blocked, but you get a limited view: venue hours, addresses, and event listings only. Drink specials, cover pricing, and crowd reporting stay hidden until your date of birth says 21. There is no workaround, which is deliberate: lying at the gate just means getting caught later.
Can I change my handle?
Yes, once every 30 days, in Settings → Account. Handles are 3–20 characters - letters, numbers, underscore, and period - unique regardless of capitalization, and can't impersonate a bar. Real names are never required anywhere in Lineup.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Account → Delete account - deletion starts immediately, with a 30-day window to change your mind before everything personal is permanently removed. Sign back in within those 30 days and the account is restored intact. Past 30 days it's gone for good; crowd reports you submitted survive only as anonymous aggregate numbers, since pulling them out retroactively would corrupt the history for everyone.
Reporting & the crowd meter
Are my crowd reports anonymous?
Yes - completely, permanently, and there is no setting that changes it. Nobody can see your reports: not strangers, not your friends, not the bar, not ever. If reports could be traced back to people, honest reporting would collapse, so anonymity is absolute and non-configurable. What friends can see (check-ins, going) is a separate, friends-only system - reports aren't part of it.
Why can't I report from home?
Because a report only counts within 150 meters of the bar, verified server-side. That's the rule that makes the meter worth reading - nobody can hype a bar from a couch. If you're standing at the door and it still won't go through, check that precise location is on for Lineup in system settings.
How often can I report?
Once per bar every 20 minutes, up to 12 reports a night. The cooldown keeps one person from steering a venue's number; the nightly cap keeps report-farming pointless. The night runs 5am to 5am, so the counter resets when the night actually ends, not at midnight.
Why was my report rejected?
One of six checks failed, and the app tells you which: you need to be signed in, 21 or older, within 150 meters of the bar, past the 20-minute cooldown for that venue, under the 12-report nightly cap, and the bar has to be open. No mystery errors - the reason on screen is the actual reason.
The meter looks wrong - what do I do?
Flag it in the app: a flag asks people at the venue for fresh reports rather than letting anyone edit the number directly. That's on purpose - no shortcut for users also means no shortcut for bars. Friends & privacy
Can someone follow me without me knowing?
No - friendship on Lineup is mutual-only, and there is no follow button. Both people accept, or nobody sees anything. Since the app deals in where people physically are, one-way following would be a stalking tool, so it doesn't exist. Friends are capped at 300 for the same reason: past that, presence sharing stops being social.
What is ghost mode?
One toggle that makes you invisible: your check-ins, going markers, and rally arrivals stop broadcasting to everyone, while you keep seeing friends normally. Set it to expire when the night ends or leave it on indefinitely. Nobody is ever told you're in ghost mode - it just looks like a quiet night.
What does blocking do?
Blocking is mutual and total: neither of you can see the other's presence, appear in each other's suggestions, or join a rally the other created - and you're removed from any rally you currently share. Report harassment in the app and blocking happens automatically while a human reviews it.
Who can see my night history?
Nobody - night history is private, always, with no visibility setting to get wrong. Friends can see tonight's check-in and a limited recent-nights view, never the detail. You can delete any individual night from your history, and deletion removes the record entirely. The wider data story is in the privacy policy.
Deals & codes
How many deals can I redeem in a night?
One redemption per deal, and at most three coded deals per night across all bars. Bars can set their own nightly caps on top. The limits are what keep bars offering real deals - a farmed deal disappears for everyone.
How long does a deal code last?
Ten minutes, single use. Generate it when you're at the bar, not from the pregame couch - you have to be inside the venue's geofence to redeem anyway. The code carries a rotating visual element that changes every few seconds, so a screenshot is worthless, including yours.
My code won't scan - now what?
Have staff type the short code into their dashboard instead - every code works both ways, scanned or typed. If the code expired while you waited, it's voided (never counted against you) and you can generate a fresh one on the spot. Still stuck? Bar owners
How do I claim my bar on Lineup?
Start at for bar owners - the claim form takes two minutes, a person reviews it, and you're set up within a day. Claiming gets you the dashboard: specials that schedule themselves, tonight's cover, hours, photos, events, a redemption scanner, and analytics. What it never gets you is a hand on the crowd meter - no bar can report its own room or edit its heat.
Our hours are wrong on Lineup.
If the bar is claimed, fix them in the dashboard and every surface updates the same minute - regular hours, one-off closures, holidays. Not claimed yet? Email hello@lineup-app.org with the correction and we'll make it, or claim the bar and own the listing outright. Users can also suggest corrections from inside the app.
Get Home
What is Get Home?
A one-tap sheet with your ways home: rideshare handoff with your location already filled in, the campus escort line (UB Police: 716-645-2222), and a walking route to the address you saved as home. It's available all night and moves front and center after 1am, when it matters most. The longer version - including which districts you can actually walk - is in getting home after last call.
Do I need to set Get Home up?
No - it works out of the box, and gets better with one minute of setup. Save a home address and the walking route is ready before you need it; grant location and the rideshare handoff prefills where you're standing. Safety notices are the one category of notification that can't be switched off.
