Elmwood Village holds 29 rooms in our directory, six of which post a 4am close, and only two of which charge anything at the door - Milkie's at $5 after 9pm on weekends and Mr. Goodbar at $5 after 11. It reads like a neighborhood avenue and closes like a strip, which is the most useful thing to know about it: you get Chippewa's hours without Chippewa's door prices, spread over a mile instead of a block.
The six that go to 4am
Cole's and Forty Thieves run Friday and Saturday. Thirsty Buffalo and High Violet add Thursday. Milkie's takes Friday and Saturday, and Mr. Goodbar posts the widest late window on the avenue - Wednesday through Saturday to 4am.
That Wednesday is worth circling. Outside of Allentown and a handful of neighborhood taverns, almost nothing else in Buffalo is open that late midweek.
The spread is the point
Chippewa packs its doors into one block, which makes bar-hopping trivial and the crowd concentrated. Elmwood does the opposite: the rooms are strung along the avenue, so the crowd distributes and no single door has a line worth complaining about.
The tradeoff is that guessing wrong costs you a walk instead of thirty seconds. That is exactly the situation tonight's board is built for - and if the crew wants three stops up the avenue, set them in order as a rally and stop relitigating it at every corner.
The earlier rooms
Between 1am and 2am you have Jack Rabbit, McGarrets, Saint Neri, The Beer Keep, The Place and Sportsmen's Tavern - the last of which is a music room and runs on its bill rather than the bar clock.
Elmwood also has genuine daytime rooms in a way Chippewa mostly does not: several of these open in the early afternoon, which makes the avenue a reasonable answer to "somewhere to sit" as well as "somewhere to go out."
What we do not claim
You will notice this guide names hours and covers and almost nothing else. That is deliberate. We publish what a bar has told us or what somebody standing inside has reported, and no Elmwood room has posted a drink special with us yet - so rather than repeat a rumor about a wing night, the venue pages say nothing and wait.
When one does post, it appears on the page and in the app the same minute. Until then, hours and cover are the honest set.
