Chippewa is the strip out-of-town friends mean when they say going out in Buffalo: 33 rooms in our directory, nine of them open to 4am, and four with a cover posted in advance. It is the loudest, latest, most expensive district in the city and the only one where paying to get in on a Saturday is ordinary. Here is what is actually on the block, and how to time it.
The 4am rooms
Nine doors on Chippewa reach last call. Bottoms Up, SoHo Buffalo and 67 West open the late window on Thursday; Rec Room, VENU, The Cowboy, Sky Bar, Bada Bing and Buffalo Tap House run Friday and Saturday.
If you want the strip without the 4am version of it, the earlier tier is real: Pearl Street Grill & Brewery, Big Ditch Brewing and Marble & Rye all close between 10pm and midnight and are a completely different evening.
The cover schedule, exactly
Four Chippewa rooms post a cover with us in advance, and the switch hour is where the money is:

Timing is the whole game
Every cover on this list switches on at a posted hour, which means arriving twenty minutes early is worth ten dollars a head. A crew of five that walks into Rec Room at 9:45 instead of 10:15 keeps fifty bucks, and the room is the same room.
The catch is that a door can change its mind - a quiet night gets a cover dropped, a packed one gets it raised early. That is why the number on a venue page moves when somebody standing at that door reports something different, and why the posted schedule is a starting point rather than a guarantee.
Two rooms that are not bars
Town Ballroom and Mohawk Place sit on the strip and get counted as Chippewa, but they are show rooms. You are buying a bill, the crowd arrives and leaves on the set times rather than the bar clock, and both close at 2am rather than 4. Check who is playing before you judge the door price.
Is it busy right now?
The honest answer is that Chippewa's reputation is a weekend reputation. Wednesday on this block is quiet in a way the strip's name does not suggest, and a Thursday in July is not a Thursday in September.
